THE PICTORIAL ALLIANCES

1973 · 1994

Salvatore Fiume liked discovering young artists or helping them to make the most of their talent and skills. Between 1973 and 1994 a number of younger artists, including his daughter Laura, also a painter and a student of his, were regularly associated with him in his studio. They were Franz Borghese, Paola Grott, Gianni Mattò, Angelo Maynardi Araldi, Enzo Patti, Ercole Pignatelli, and Daniela Romano. With them Fiume carried out a cycle of paintings called The Pictorial Alliances.  With each young artist Fiume designed the painting (or paintings) he intended to create with him or her by indicating the compositional structure of the painting suggested to him by their individual themes, styles, and special abilities. As a result, each painting of this series, carried out over quite a long period of time, is the realization of a pictorial idea by Salvatore Fiume carried out “for four hands” with a younger talented artist.
