The graffiti

The graffiti are a singular experience within the vast array of works created by Salvatore Fiume. They are a homage to the anonymous artists of the prehistorical caves in Altamira, Spain, and Lascaux, France. Fiume saw in them man's immense expressive potential already present, which would manifest itself fully in Italian Renaissance art. The graffiti cycle dates back to 1973-1978. Fiume created them by painting and engraving on surfaces specially prepared to have similar characteristics to those of the walls used by the ancient masters from the caves.
