Islands of statues

In the 'Islands of Statues' cycle, Salvatore Fiume expresses contemporaneously an ideal of painting, architecture and sculpture. Each island or city is made up of buildings imagined as inhabitable sculptures. This theme recurs almost throughout his entire artistic life. In the architecture section of this site, one can see how Fiume's many architectural projects - a series of concrete proposals to be built using modern construction techniques - represent the logical development of the idea of island and city expressed in his paintings.
