Fiumefreddo Bruzio

In 1975 the town of Fiumefreddo Bruzio in Calabria welcomed enthusiastically Salvatore Fiume's proposal to revitalise the historical centre with some works free of charge. Starting that year Fiume painted some external and internal walls of the tumbledown eighteenth century castle. In 1977 he frescoed the vault of the chapel of San Rocco and in the ensuing years he added a bronze sculpture in each of the two panoramic squares in Fiumefreddo that overlook the sea. In 1996 he repainted the internal walls of the castle after the original frescoes were destroyed by bad weather. These images document the first version (1975) and much of the second (1996), carried out by Fiume a year before he died.
