NYMPH AND FAUN
Since 1960
Nymph and Faun, a subject particularly dear to Salvatore Fiume, was developed both in a cycle of drawings and in some of his sculptures called Museum Reconstructions. Common to all the works belonging to this subject is a strong eroticism viewed in its poetical aspect. Depending on the effect he wanted to obtain Fiume used a pen or a pastel which allowed him to express his strong eroticism either through a fine sign or through a thicker and more primitive looking one.

As an artist he need not justify himself for searching images and symbols in the territories of history and of natural mythology. So rich is the plurality of his observations that his works seem to come out of the notebook a fortunate traveller who has found himself among unburied cities unknown to all, playing on equal terms, since his childhood, with satyrs, nymphs and minotaurs in love…
