If one considers Salvatore Fiume’s deep link with the town where Piero della Francesca had created some of his greatest masterpieces, the idea of celebrating the tenth anniversary of his death in the city of Arezzo was not a casual choice. In his text on the exhibition, while defining Salvatore Fiume as “an artist that must certainly be considered among the major ones of the XX Century”, Giovanni Faccenda recalls his “pilgrimage” a few years after the end of World War II, to Arezzo, Monterchi, and Sansepolcro where Fiume admired and studied Piero della Francesca’s works hosted in those towns. Also influenced by other masters of the XV Century like, for example, Paolo Uccello, Fiume started a dialogue with them which would be a constant of his following research. More than 200 works, carried out over 50 years (1944-1994), were on display in Arezzo, including oils, drawings, sculptures, etchings, lithographs, book illustrations, and original set design sketches for the theatre. The catalog of the exhibition was by Giovanni Faccenda.
