ARCHITECTURE

Fiume had a highly personal vision of architecture, a vision expressed by him through various drawings, plastic models, and in many of his paintings known as Cities of Statues and Islands of Statues. The central idea was that of an “anthropomorphic” and “zoomorphic” architecture whose buildings were conceived as huge inhabitable sculptures. His projects, still at the draft stage, anticipated by many years the spirit of creative freedom that has become an essential part of today’s culture. What only a few years ago seemed unconceivable has now become the necessary characterization of sites, museums, and private homes. We hope to be able one day to put into real construction one of Fiume’s projects that will become the venue of his museum.
